In Bellbrook, OH, Dayton's professional soccer club, the Dayton Dutch Lions and Dutch Lions Football Club held its week-long summer camp for ages 6-15.
Its been a year of "Firsts" for the Dutch Lions, and its popularity for Summer Camps is yet another example for the soccer community to see the quick and impressive development the Dutch Lions are making. In its first summer camp to date, 140 kids came out to be trained and taught by Dayton's coaching staff and current roster players.
The kids are being taught a different approach than a typical camp. The Lions' camp is based off of the Dutch Total Football Philosophy. And was specifically designed by Holland's powerhouse, FC Twente. Twente is currently the National Champions in top league in The Netherlands. Their First Team Asst Coach and Head Academy Advisor, Rene Hake spent over 5 weeks working with the Dutch Lions Academy and Camp Directors to specifically write a detailed plan for this year.
Throughout the week, DDL trainers are working with the kids on target shooting, possession, spacing tactics, "coerver" drills and much more.
The camps are uniquely timed in a perfect manner, as many players will report for training next week to their respective soccer clubs across the Dayton area; including the DL Premier Youth Academy. Furthermore, the Dutch Lions are holding a conditioning/agility camp next week to help players get the fitness needed to prepare for their High School teams, College teams and Club Seasons.
